Kevin Curran has always been an artist. His family has a rich history in art. All of his grandparents had artistic abilities, and his maternal grandparents even met while attending the same art school. His mother Carol Ann Curran is a well-known professional artist. Given these surroundings Kevin was able to have plenty of fun playing with countless art media from the time he could hold a pencil in his hands.

In his high school years Kevin found art to be his direction in life, which led to School of Visual Arts in New York City where he earned his BFA. During his college career, he was one of the few chosen applicants to show a piece at the NYC Art Directors Club, which was also featured in Print Magazine.

After graduating, Curran moved to Charleston, SC where he started screen printing, graphic design, and illustration, and eventually filled the role of art director. During those early years he also pursued his painting career with commissioned portraits, including paintings of homes and pets.

While continuing his graphic design and illustration career, Curran opened Curran's Beach House Gallery on the Isle of Palms, in December 2000. The gallery featured work by his mother, Carol Ann, and himself.  After a couple of years, with a need for more viewers, he then moved what became The Curran Gallery to Downtown Charleston.  Curran Gallery closed it's "bricks and mortar” location in 2010, and continued its presence online, as currangallery.com
 

Kevin owns Charleston Graphics, LLC, which is a screen printing, graphic design & promotional marketing business. They have three apparel brands that have spawned from Kevin’s design work. Charleston Apparel, Water Creature, and Marsh Dog. His business provides a fluid integration with his painting career, which for him, it’s all art. His graphic design customers and colleagues often refer to him as Kevin The Artist, or even K.T.A. which inspired the www.KevinTheArtist.com website address. The artistic energy is also part of his life as a musician too, playing guitar in a metal band in high school, trippy jam band in college, and mandolin and guitar in a bluegrass fusion band now on 20+ years.

 

Commissioned paintings continue to keep the easel hot, between landscapes, and wildlife, inspired by the Lowcountry, and other ideas that are spontaneously brainstormed.

Kevin resides in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with his beautiful wife, two boys, and a big Red Standard Poodle.
